TRADITIONS

Advent Retreat-Students spend a half-day with their buddies learning about the four weeks leading up to Christmas. This special time in our church is known as Advent. The children get to experience the love of Jesus with hands-on lessons, videos, snacks, and a craft that reminds us why we celebrate Christmas.

Career Day – During the month of January, we have special visitors come and share their passion with our students. We get to learn about different job opportunities and participate in many lessons.

Carefest Week – We partner with Somebody Cares Tampa Bay and the Diocese of St. Petersburg to celebrate Carefest Week. During the week, we give back to our community, first responders, the sick and lonely and our school. We take part in school-wide prayer service for all first responders from three counties, deliver cards to the sick and provide food and items to a local shelter. Our students also spend time caring for their school by painting, cleaning, and other projects.

Carnival – In February we have our annual three-day carnival. This is a community event where everyone can enjoy the fun. There are many opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Catholic Schools Week – Together with the Diocese of St. Petersburg, we celebrate Catholic Schools all over the country. We kick off this week at the 11:30am Sunday Mass where we donate hundreds of teddy bears to the Sheriff’s department. These bears are carried by deputies and given to children in distress on active calls. During Catholic Schools Week, our 8th graders take on a teacher role, one day is designated to our families and we end the week with a talent show and free Rita’s Ice!

Eighth Grade Clap Off and Awards Brunch – To celebrate the years of hard work and effort, our 8th graders and their families get to enjoy a celebration. Graduation takes place at our school mass. Following mass, we clap off our students as they take their final walk down the halls at BSCS alongside their parents. The tunnel of students leads them to the Awards Brunch in where students are recognized for academic achievement, service, and faith.

Eighth Grade Interviews – Every 8th-grade student learns how to write a resume and cover letter. Together with a team of teachers, they practice interview skills, get dressed up and have an exit interview with the principal. They are prepared to discuss traditions they hope to continue at BSCS, a change they would like to see made, their faith journey and their high school plans.

Family Halloween Dance – This event is hosted by our 8th-grade class and a fundraiser to their trip to the Keys. Families are encouraged to dress up, dance, and enjoy a meal together.

Family BINGO – This is a community event where people of every age can play and win. Every game has a student and adult winner. Snacks and drinks are provided. Donations are taken and donated to specific organizations.

Field Day – Students enjoy water and outdoor games led by Coach and the 8th graders. This is a fun event in May that all of the students and teachers look forward to.

KNN Live – Students in grades four and five put on a twenty-minute live Kids News Network Show on the last Friday of every month. The morning is filled with sharing the bible verse and monthly virtue, birthday celebrations, sports updates and information from our Student Council.

Grandparents Day – We welcome all grandparents and special friends to join us in prayer at mass. We have a special breakfast for our grandparents, followed with crafts, pictures and more with their special grandchildren.

Lenten Retreat – During the Easter season, our students participate in a half-day retreat where they learn how and why Jesus died for us. Teaching about the days leading up to Jesus dying on the cross, the children watch videos, talk in small groups, and pray together.

Pi Day – On March 14th, our middle school students rotate to different centers around the school to complete different Pi day lessons. The day ends with everyone enjoying a piece of pie!

Spirit Day – The last Friday of every other month, we show our Shamrock pride by wearing green and enjoying a tasty treat from Rita’s Ice.

School Mass – Every Wednesday, we celebrate the Holy Eucharist together as a school community. Students in grades 5-8 have a special buddy for four years in grades EC-3 to grade 1.
